Day 4
Today we weren’t due to meet up until 9:30 but my body clock kicked in and I was awake at 6 - typical
When we did meet up we went back to the diner as kieren was comfortable with their offerings
We decided to go to Central Park zoo
We walked down 8th Avenue and Joss got a little over excited as our walk was momentarily halted by lots of hunky firefighters
Last time we were here it was boiling hot in the summer so it was weird seeing all the trees waiting to bloom in Central Park
On reaching the zoo I held my breath and tried the flexi pass that failed to work yesterday - success - it worked fine and we all went in
It was only small but the seals and penguins were lively
We then saw bears and a snow leopard and monkeys
Then the best bit (for me) was going into the tropical zone where all the birds were flying around us - Hattie’s personal nightmare
Coming back to the hotel we decided to walk back up 7th Avenue
As we walked, I said to Joss, “the only thing that would make this better is if we found the bar we went to 6 years ago” and 2 roads later, there it was!!!
This was confirmed inside as I remembered the restrooms were downstairs and walking there I stumbled as the floor unexpectedly sloped upwards, just as I did all those years ago
After beers and food, we left to do some world class souvenir hunting - these shops didn’t know what had hit them!!!
We bought paninis for dinner so we could rest a bit before the evening’s extravaganza
So at 6pm we set off to the Lyric Theatre on Broadway to watch Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
I had no idea what to expect, except I knew I was about to buy the 4 most expensive drinks known to man but the good news was that we had epic seats
The play started and if I’m honest, the first hour seemed to drag as it seemed to be a bit directionless
But then shone a star
The more that Draco’s camp son was in it, the better it was - he totally stole the show
The special effects also stepped up a gear to a crescendo just before the break when 3 dementors flew around the theatre
There was tension as one in particular hovered right in front of us for about 10 seconds
I will admit, however, that tension was slightly abashed when I looked to my right and saw Kieren beaming a smile and waving at it
Hahahahahaha
The second half was much better than the first so overall the play was very good
If I had the power to tweak it though, I’d add a few songs - there was already some dancing, a song or two would have given it that extra pizzazz
Back at the hotel just after 11 so we are finally getting acclimated - not a moment too soon as tomorrow is even busier than today…..
