Day 8

Today was our last full day in New York and was meant to be a quiet, relaxing day although looking at my watch, I can see I did nearly 16k steps so not as quiet as I’d believed

After breakfast where Kieren and I stuck to croissants whilst the ladies went for waffles and pancakes, we set off to the Rockefeller Centre to visit the observation deck

We had to exchange our flexi tickets for “real” tickets which were timed at 13:10 so we had almost an hour and a half to kill - oh well if we must go to the Irish Bar…

Kieren has taken quite a shine to it but admitted he still thought the Acorn was the best, closely followed by the Red Lion….

Once the time was reached we quickly got into the building and the views were great

On the way up they showed a film on the ceiling of the lift explaining all about the building and Kieren LOVED that

After there we went to the baseball shop where I thought I was being frivolous buying a t-shirt only to be trumped by Joss being super generous and buying me a Mets shirt - I am very lucky

Next it was off to M&M world where we all bought some souvenirs

Between shops, Joss had constantly been regaling us with her versions of the sirens of the police, ambulance and fire services and had gotten so good that when a real one went off, she’d lean in to me and say “that one’s not me” 👀

The final shop of the day was the Pele soccer shop where Hattie treated herself with more footy shirts - they all looked good and were ones we’d be unlikely to find in the UK

After we dropped all this off we had some afternoon cake - Joss and Hattie went for the New York cheesecake while kieren and I went for the layered chocolate cake

Both were delicious

We then set aside a couple of hours to get our luggage ready and have a lie down

Joss and I decided to get the luggage ready, then go for a beer

In the evening we all met up and went to Gayle’s Broadway Rose for an evening meal where the waiters and waitresses would sing Broadway songs

I was hopeless at getting the phone ready to record it but I did catch this snippet

All the singers were great and the food was lovely but to be honest I was on edge all night trying to stop Joss wrestling the microphones off the singers….

Just as well Kieren kept them sweet by waving at them as they walked by and sang “to him” 🤣

Once eaten the kids wanted to go back for an early night so Joss and I stayed out for another hour or so for a nightcap

Like the holiday as a whole, today has been lovely but very, very tiring - time to get some sleep before the long trip back to Blighty
