Day 7
This clocks went forward in New York last night so I did feel a bit cheated when my alarm went off at 8 - I want that extra hour back!!
We started the day with a typical New York breakfast - croissants!!
To be fair all this heavy food was starting to overwhelm me so a lighter brekkie suited me fine
We set off afterwards to visit the Brooklyn Bridge
This is the second year in a row we’ve been abroad for cherry blossom season
It was a loooong walk, broken up by just one coffee stop opposite a girl who was doing multiple TikTok videos of herself doing exercises - oh to be young again
The walk was interesting though with all the various types of buildings, including one very famous movie building
Finally we arrived and it was very impressive although after such a long walk we felt no desire to go all the way over it
In fact, once we’d taken some pictures Kieren, being aware of the itinerary for the day, immediately said “and where’s Chinatown? “
Lucky for us all, it was just 15 minutes away
Before doing any shopping, we stopped for some lunch
It was all delicious but weirdly, after the meal we were presented with this:
As Joss said at the time, none of us could remember playing the first half of football…..
After the shopping we started on our way home and I saw this, you can make your own jokes up here;
As you can imagine, as it was a long walk there, it was a long walk back so we stopped off at Judy Z’s sports tavern for a flowery beer - apt really as the place was as hot as the tropical section of the local zoo
When we finally got back to the hotel the kids needed some rest so Joss and I sneaked off for an hour to a bar where they clearly need instruction on how to put a proper pint
When the kids were ready they decided to go back to the Irish bar for dinner so we strolled through Times Square again
Where I found a new location for our weekly boys’ club
And Kieren saw the billboard of the film he’s looking forward to seeing at the cinema
The food was lovely but with every meal we’ve had, damned expensive
We watched the Knicks lose tonight on TV, proving 2 things:
1 If we’d been there, with our impeccable record, they would have won and
2 The people that changed the arena from basketball to ice hockey back to basketball in 48 hours earn every penny they get
They even had a live singer in the pub but he got a bit “too Irish” in the end pandering for the real Irish in the place although luckily the one who was steaming as we arrived had just left before he started - god knows what would have happened otherwise….
