Day 3

Whether it be the long day, the alcohol or the painkiller late at night, I salute whatever it was as I slept straight through the night without stirring

Much needed sleep

At 7:30 the alarm sounded as we’d agreed to meet up at 8:30 for breakfast in the same place as last night

Joss, Kieren and I had the cheddar 3 egg omelette whilst Hattie had the breakfast burrito

We then took a taxi to Battery Park for the Statue of Liberty ferry tour

Unfortunately, the attraction pass I had bought wasn’t accepted at the near ferry and the choice had to be made to either walk the 20 minutes or so to get that ferry, or buy new tickets and use the pass on something else - obviously we did the latter as the near ferries ran every 25 minutes

When we’d got through security we were quickly on a ferry and the fly in the ointment was that it was really foggy so you couldn’t actually see the statue until you were practically on it

Still, once we’d landed it was all there to be seen

We’d bought tickets to go up to the pedistal but to be honest the fog curtailed any scenery pictures of note

On the way down I stubbed my toe and fell to my knees

Luckily it was on step 186 of 186 so the only thing injured was my pride

Had we still been on step 1 this might have been a very different blog…

We then travelled on to Ellis island

Hattie was overheating at this point and had seen to tourist shop so we whizzed through this and bought a few souvenirs

As we caught the ferry back to the mainland it started to rain so after landing Kieren, Hattie and Joss bought umbrellas

I didn’t get one because I was busy holding my phone as a sat nav and we decided to break the journey up by going firstly to Greenwich village

The rain was getting harder at this point so we were all relieved when we found a sports bar (Barrow street Alehouse)

They were very kind to us by switching a couple of TV’s to watch Champions’ League football and we rewarded them by drinking lager (blue point toasted) made in Coney Island and by eating the most artery clogging potato skins known to man

While we were there, Eloise messaged us saying we were really close to the “Friends” apartment - Joss may have called her a stalker but Eloise thought of it as more a natural curiosity

We then had a 30 minute walk back to the hotel but as the rain had got even worse, Joss had enough of me looking like a drowned rat and bought me an umbrella too - that’s love for you

15 minutes into the journey we found another bar (Shaffer’s) where we drank Yuengling lager which, despite sounding Chinese, claimed to be America’s oldest brewery

By now, the rain has turned Biblical

Added to this, Kieren was visibly tired from the whole day so we decided to sweeten the deal with a McDonald’s

Hattie also very much enjoyed the experience as she tried all the sauces we don’t get in the UK as well as a bespoke burger

Mine tasted the same as usual and we knew Kieren was ready to crash when he couldn’t finish his

So, crash we all did, with the extra bonus of a lie in tomorrow - lovely
